This remarkable and early sampler was stitched by Mary Fowler, possibly with the help of her teacher Elizabeth Daggett in 1725. It was worked in cross stitch, rice stitch, satin stitch and Algerian Eye. The sampler measures 8.5 x 9 inches and was worked on non evenweave linen (approx 50-count fabric) in silk and cotton

This lovely sampler was stitched in 1762 and was worked on linen with silk and cotton. As with all our charted originals, we try to copy them faithfully including any errors and irregularities. The chart pack includes suggested fabrics and colours but feel free to adapt to suit your taste

Stitch count: 282 x 272 This wonderful French sampler was stitched on double canvas in the late 1860s using cross stitch. I have charted this project recreating the damaged section on the bottom right. If stitched on 28-count evenweave,it will measure roughly 20inches (51cm) square and you will need approx 12 skeins of stranded cotton (floss)

Stitch Count: 346 x 360 This unique cross stitch sampler was stitched by Catherine between 1856 and 1868 while she was a pupil at Ashley Down, the Muller Orphanage in Bristol, England. The original sampler was stitched over two fabric threads on very fine linen and measured only 10 x 11ins (25.5 x 28cm) She must have used finer than 60-count fabric! Worked on 28-count Cashel linen the design size will be approx 24 x 25 ins
